Influencing Policy & Systemic Change
Our priority for the future is not just to provide support to people in need, but also to ignite change by influencing policy and systemic change in order to bring about systemic shifts which will help change perceptions, societal attitudes, and behaviours.
We address social and economic exclusion, undertaking advocacy on behalf of people who are at risk of getting involved in criminal behaviour.
Many Tosú clients are from the most disadvantaged communities. They may have experienced childhood adversity, be early school leavers, have experience of substance misuse or addiction. Some are going through periods of mental and physical ill-health. They are often in crisis when they come to us.
We believe in the possibility of a different approach to imprisonment, given that the majority of people given sentences come from areas of high deprivation. We advocate for positive initiatives that will benefit individuals, families, and communities.
Our aim is to influence structural change which will allow for better prevention, targeting socio-economic drivers of crime and and ongoing social and economic exclusion. Ultimately, we aim to break the cycle of offending behaviour.
